Concrete Prep in Northern Colorado.

Engineered subgrade and base prep ready for your concrete crew.

About Concrete Prep.

Every concrete crew has a list of contractors they like working with and a list they don't. The difference is usually whether the prep was done right. Did the sub-grade come in clean and on elevation? Was the base course compacted to spec? Did the under-slab utilities go in before the final compaction pass — or are we trying to dig through them now? Was the moisture right, or are we pumping water all morning?

NLS does concrete prep that puts us on the "yes, work with them" list. We read the structural drawings, confirm the sub-base spec with the engineer or building department, and place the base course in compacted lifts with proper moisture control. We coordinate the under-slab plumbing and electrical sleeves before final compaction so nobody is digging back into a finished pad.

When the concrete truck pulls in, the pad is forms-ready, the elevations are documented, and your slab crew can pour without surprises.

What's included.

  • Sub-grade excavation and shaping to plan
  • Imported structural fill and base course placement
  • Compaction in lifts to engineered density
  • Forms-ready finish to plan elevation and tolerance

How we execute.

  1. Step 01
    Plan review

We read the structural drawings and confirm pad limits, sub-base spec, and elevations.

  2. Step 02
    Cut to subgrade

Strip topsoil, cut to design subgrade, dispose or stockpile as required.

  3. Step 03
    Build the base

Place base course in lifts, compact to spec with moisture control.

  4. Step 04
    Forms-ready handoff

Final shoot, any trim work, and a clean handoff to the concrete crew.

Why NLS for concrete prep.

We compete on getting the dirt right the first time. Hire us once, hire us again — and tell your neighbor. That's the whole business plan.

Engineer-driven specs

We follow the spec the engineer or building department wrote — not a default we used last time.

Sleeves coordinated

Plumbing and electrical sleeves go in before final compaction. No back-dig.

Compaction in lifts

Lifts, not lump-fill. Moisture-conditioned per spec. Density checked.

Forms-ready handoff

Final shoot, trim work, and a clean handoff so your slab crew is pouring on schedule.

Common questions.

Do you coordinate with my concrete contractor? +

Always. We schedule the handoff so your slab crew is never sitting waiting on us.

What sub-base material do you use? +

Typically Class 6 road base, but we follow whatever the engineer or building department specifies.

Can you handle plumbing/electrical sleeves under the slab? +

Yes — we coordinate with sub-trades so under-slab utilities go in before final compaction.

How thick a sub-base do you typically place? +

Four to eight inches compacted, depending on soil and slab loading. Engineer-driven.
